Operation PPE

When we started Old City Escape Games, we knew we were moving in the opposite direction of where the future was already heading - immersive experiences meant digital and virtual realities. Yet the core of our business was founded on the idea that we could offer people meaningful and fun experiences away from the screen - experiences that would be collective, physically interactive, mentally stimulating, and socially engaging for any generation. As creatives, everything we craft, design, make and fabricate in our escape rooms are for the enjoyment and benefit of our shared community.

Although our business has been mandated to closed during these pandemic-times and upholding safe social distancing practices, we’re still committed to doing what we can for our community. In the spirit of social engagement and meaningful design, we’ve shifted our efforts to Operation PPE - a grassroots movement of makers, architects, students, fabricators who are all home-manufacturing personal protective equipment for those working on the frontlines of this pandemic.

A PLA visor hot off the 3D printing bed. We hope to be able to produce 7-10 of these per day. Each one of these takes about an hour to print - how’s that for a 60-minute adventure?!

From sun up to sun down, we’re 3D printing visors and assembling face shields to donate to highly infected areas in the country. These face shields are intended to be worn over a face mask (like an n95 or surgical mask) to help stop the spread of bodily fluids from patients to healthcare workers. Anyone with a 3D-printer can make these to donate. If you have a 3D printer and the means, please join the movement! (Sabin Lab has all the downloadable files and materials lists you’d need to get started.)

Many of you have so kindly and generously reached out to us in support. We’re appreciative of you and happy to do what we can! To those with recommendations on places in need or accepting PPE donations, please email with details to oldecityescapegames@gmail.com. For the time being, our production ability is limited to the two of us, one 3D printer, and a small supply of materials, but we’re committed to making as many face shields as we can.

In the meantime, stay home and be safe, everyone!
